Adoption

It is always better to adopt rather than buy a new companion. With 50% of shelter animals being euthanized each year due to a lack of adoptions, there is always a need for loving homes. If you are interest in adopting a pet, you can visit the Shelter’s petfinder website which is updated very frequently. Also, feel free to call the Shelter at (804) 561-3878 for a more accurate listing of available cats and dogs.

Also, be sure to contact the local vets to see if they know of someone trying to adopt out a pet, or if they have a homeless animal in need of a home. For a list of vets who work with APAW, click here. Your best bet will be the Village Veterinary Service, as they usually have plenty of homeless cats looking for good homes with loving families.
